The dénouement of ice mice
Hee, I'm such a dork. I finally figured out how to join this community so that I could see all the posts I couldn't see before. Should we be worried that I work at an IT helpdesk?
I just wanted to drop you guys a quick note of THANK YOU
for all your organization and for the great time last night! I'm sad I couldn't join you all for dinner, but I'm glad that I was early enough to at least catch some faces and names before we were all swallowed up by the darkness of the theater. (Admittedly, I can't necessarily match whose face belongs to which name, LJ or non, at this point, but hey, it's all good!)
So... see you for GoF? ;} Current Mood: satisfied

and i are paranoid types who suddenly thought, "omg, what if we can't get a reservation anywhere? what if we really want a reservation? you can change or cancel a reservation, but you can't get one if it's TOO LATE!!!"
so, um, we made a reservation. it's for heaven on seven
at 7:00pm friday.
this is not, however, set in stone. if you don't like the idea, please please post a comment and let us know. we were just trying to cover our bases, not comandeer the group.
if you do like the idea, please please post a comment letting us know that you would like to keep this reservation, and how many people you are accounting for.
much thanks. i'm too tired to be coherent. so if i left something out, someone please conk me over the head with a blunt object and remind me, mmmkay?
. I'm helping out minervacat
with the dinner planning because she is crazy busy with work and other things.
I came up with three options for dinner on Friday before the movie. minervacat
mentioned that people were interested in pizza. Here are two nearbye pizza locations: Pizzaria Uno
, 26 E. Ohio. Uno is fantastic but they don't take reservations and they can get very very crowded. California Pizza Kitchen
, 835 N. Michigan. This is in the Water Tower, a short walk away from the theater. They also do not take reservations but said that they might be able to hold a table if we call them a couple hours in advance.
The next option is not primarily pizza, but I think it's an interesting possibility: Heaven on Seven on Rush,
600 N. Michigan. This is a Cajun-Creole resturant that takes reservations and is connected to the movie theater. Which might be very advantageous.
We also had some Mexican type suggestions:Lalo's
, 500 N. LaSalle
412 N. Clark.
Both places take reservations but they are also a bit more expensive than our other options.
So please leave a comment with your preference and tomorrow morning I will post definite plans, or maybe a final death-match or something. At that time I'll also take a head count so I can make a reservation if need be before 5:00pm tomorrow.
So we have tickets to the 10:45 pm showing of Prisoner of Azkaban
at the Loews 600 North Michigan. The closest El stop is Grand on the Red Line; the theater is about two blocks north of the stop at Ohio and Rush. If you don't want to drive into the city proper - I don't know what parking is like down there, not having a car - you can always consider parking further north on a side street and taking the El in. I'll be heading down to McCormick place to meet Cedar straight after work, so if you want to come in early, we can arrange that as well.
The list of official attendees I have is as follows: minervacat, cedarlibrarian, farothear, flouritephoenix, insidian, uss_hairball, darthalia, karitawyr, sunquist and goovie. Cedar is a potential Plus One, and I've offered our 12th ticket to my next door neighbor, who may or may not want it. She's getting back to me by tomorrow and if she doesn't want it, I'll post here and see if anyone else wants to grab it.
So now we need some dinner plans. Luckily, that area is full of restaurants, so we have a pick of choice. In the same building as the theater is a branch of Heaven on Seven, which does excellent Cajun food, and there are also a couple of pizza joints nearby. I'd like to know if we have vegetarians we need to take care of, and if any of you have suggestions. I'm going to put together a short list of potential places this afternoon, which I'll add to this post, but if any of you have suggestions, hit us with them! I figure we want to be in line for seats by 9:30 at the latest, so a 7 pm reservation somewhere is our best bet.
Help me plan! My brain is broken today from the long weekend.

So I'm going to be stuck driving in next Friday, because the Metra trains don't run late enough. I'd love to find someplace to park that's reasonably convenient to the theater but doesn't involve going through the Loop or anywhere near Michigan Avenue--I'm just not that masochistic. I'll be coming in on the Eisenhower, so I can get on lower Wacker easily, or I can come up north on Canal and get past the Loop that way. (I'm assuming that getting on the Kennedy on a Friday evening isn't a good move.) Does anyone know of any parking lots or garages that would fit the bill--reasonably convenient to both the Eisenhower and the theater? Or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and deal with N. Michigan? And is there parking in the 600 N. Michigan building, or would I need to find someplace nearby?minervacat
suggested parking up by her place, and I might take her up on that, except by the time the movie's over, I think I'd rather just get in the car and leave. But it's an option.
Oh, and minervacat
, this icon looks a little more like me. [g]
Rot, hell and damnation.
I've come up one ticket short and I've used all the credit cards I can. If anyone sees this, can you buy one ticket here for the 10:45 showing - sorry about the time, y'all, the 7:15 showing sold out this morning - and post a comment letting me know? If not, I'll make insidian do it when she comes over soon.
ETA: Taken care of!
Otherwise, I've got tickets for all but one who claimed them (and thank darthalia
for buying some, too!), and y'all owe me 10 bucks apiece.
The twelve attendees thus far: minervacat, cedarlibrarian + 2, insidian, farothear, flouritephoenix, darthalia + 1, goovie, sunquist, uss_hairball. Tickets for the 10:45 show (at Loews 600 N. Michigan) are still available, if you know anyone who wants to join us. The link above should work. Next week we'll get dinner plans dealt with!
i am the worst organizer ever, guys. sorry.
We have a problem.
I can't get tickets for the AMC River East. I've tried. You can't buy them online, I'm suffered through an hour of the Worst Hold Music On The Planet on their automated system only to discover that they don't sell them that way, and I'm beginning to think that the AMC River East isn't even showing the damn thing.
Now, the Loews at Michigan and Ohio is. I can get those tickets through Fandango. (Though I think I'll need one person to help me; you can only buy four per credit card, and I've got two I can split it between, but we've got twelve people going.)
Does anyone object to this? It's still as accessible by CTA as the AMC - Grand on the Red Line - and there are some great restaurants right near by, and I can buy the tickets today. ASAP, in fact.
Let me know if there are any huge objections - otherwise I'm going to go ahead and get tickets there. The only real problem as I see it is that there's a 7:15 showing and a 10:45 showing - I know that some people couldn't do the earlier time, but we're kind of running low on ticket-purchasing time. Discuss. Let me know. I'd like to get this settled today if at all possible.
Argh. *flail* Current Mood: aggravated
|Monday, May 17th, 2004|
I'm going to try and buy tickets for all of us to a Friday evening - between 9:30 and 10:30 pm is what I'm aiming for, depending on what's available - showing of Prisoner of Azkaban
at the AMC River East theater as soon as tickets go on sale (which should be this week), so I'd like to get a final-ish headcount of who all will be attending.
When tickets finally go on sale, I'll pick a show time and post it here, and we can startstart organizing for a dinner out beforehand.
So, if you're planning on joining us for a Friday June 4 late evening showing of PoA in Chicago, reply here and let me know if you're bringing anyone who isn't in the community so I can get a honest headcount. If you have a time preference - closer to 9 pm, later the better, whatever - let me know that as well.
Two and a half weeks! *tosses confetti*

Okay, people. Let's get our act together.minervacat
, do you know if the theater is selling tickets yet? If so, how do we want to reserve them? When are we planning on going? Night performances, especially late ones, are preferable. The later we go, the fewer small children will be there. Saturday and Sunday's matinees are out for me because I'll be at McCormick Place all day.
How are we all going to know each other at the theater? I've known silvana
for quite some time, so recognizing them will not be a problem, but what about the rest of you? I'm perfectly content with giving my cell phone number privately to the members of this community, so we could call each other to arrange time and meeting places, etc.
I'm not going in costume. I do, however, have a very cute baby tee with the Hogwarts crest on it in blue glitter, and a pin that says "S.P.E.W.: Washing our own socks since 1994." (designed it myself...am so proud)
TLC is only planning a big NYC get-together. Hmmm. I'll check around to see if anyone with a big flist is wiling to pimp us. Current Mood: excited

Welcome to chicago_poa!
If you're reading this, you must be a Harry Potter fan in the Chicagoland area!
(If you're not both of those, you're welcome here, but nothing said in this community will be of interest to you.)
This community is centered around planning a trip to see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
for Chicago HP fans. (Eventually, it may be just a community for planning Chicago HP gatherings, but for now: Prisoner of Azkaban
it is! I'm minervacat
, aka Min, and I'm your friendly moderator here (but cedarlibrarian
made me do it). I currently live in Ravenswood, just north of Wrigleyville, with my boyfriend and my iBook. And I'm a Harry Potter fan.
To get started, so we can go on to figure out the details (which are way more interesting anyway), I wanted to get you guys to answer a couple of of questions so I can make some polls and get more information in other posts.
So. Right. Questions. Just leave your answers in the comments (and maybe an introduction?):
1. When do you want to see the movie? Opening Night, June 4; Saturday June 5 matinee; Saturday June 5 evening? Some other day entirely? Let me know your first and second choices.
2. If we went out to dinner beforehand, would you want to come with us?
3. If we went out for dessert/drinks afterwards, would you want to come with us?
4. Are you in Chicago proper or the Chicago 'burbs? (If 'burbs, which 'burb?)
5. Do you have a car? Could you drive to the theater? Would you be willing to give rides to other fans?
5a. If you're a public transportation sort of person, what El lines/Metra lines/bus lines are you nearest to?
6. Would you be more likely to come see the movie if we met up before the opening of the movie?
Once I start getting some answers to those questions, I'll put together a couple of polls sussing out more details. (Oh - and anyone who's a member should be able to post now!)
